How marble is formed may not be the most fascinating topic, but the end product is absolutely stunning. Throughout history, marble has been used inside expensive homes and buildings.  Most people recognize the use of marble as a symbol of wealth and prosperity. Today, using marble for kitchen countertops, bathroom vanities, business reception counters and bars is one of the most affordable options out there.  When one thinks of marble, we visualize the pristine whiteness of Carrara or Calcutta marble. This is marble in its purest form.  The fact is that marble is available in a wide range of colours and veining.

Appreciate Marble as Simple, Natural Beauty

Straight from nature,each slab of marble is one of a kind.  A more unique look to your marble can be attained through two types of finishes, honed or polished. A honed finish is created by sanding the surface so that it has a matte appearance. Honed marble won’t show scratches or etching as much as polished, but it will stain more easily. A polished finish is shiny and glossy. This finish won’t stain as easily, but it will show scratches and etching, especially in bright sunlight.

Seal the countertops regularly, as recommended by the manufacturer. Be sure to reseal when water fails to bead up when it splashes on the surface. Sealing will help prevent stains and damage and keep the marble countertops looking beautiful.
Dust at least once a week with a soft microfiber cloth. For wet cleaning, use a damp cloth and a pH-neutral cleaner designed for stone. Check with your countertop company for their recommendations. It is common to use mild dish soap and water. Put it in a spray bottle and spray the counter. Wipe and scrub gently with a damp cloth. Rinse the towel and wipe until all of the suds are gone. You can then dry the countertop with a soft towel. To remove stubborn stains, use a poultice paste. Spread it onto the stain, then cover with plastic wrap sealed with painters' tape. Once it's dry (12 to 24 hours), scrape the paste off and wipe with a damp cloth. For deep-set stains, you may need to reapply paste.
Never use abrasive cleaners that will damage and dull the finish. Be sure to discuss this with any visitors or relatives who are staying with you or helping prepare a holiday feast.
